I-285 Multi-USe Bridge

2017

In late 2013 the Atlanta Braves announced the relocation of their home stadium to the Battery Atlanta, a mixed-use development in the Cumberland CID. In anticipation of the new growth and development created by the Battery, Cobb County DOT saw the opportunity for a multi-use bridge over I-285 to provide mobility improvements and a safe connection between commercial, residential, and entertainment districts within the Cumberland area.

Mr. Lawson was an integral part of the design team, providing the initial concept and inspiration for the bridge design. The architecture is inspired by the World Series Commissioner's Trophy and the perforations in the fence mimicking waves as an homage to the Chattahoochee River.

The I-285 Multi-Use Bridge was awarded the Georgia Partnership for Transportation Quality (GPTQ) Preconstruction Design Award for the  Bridge/Structural Design Category and was also a finalist in Planning and Design of an Alternative Transportation Facility.
